Welcome to Mark J Thurling photography!
Hi, I'm Mark…
Husband to my soul mate Aloma, proud Dad of Oriana-Rose and dog father to a diva cavachon called Yodi. We are very fortunate to call this stunning county of Pembrokshire our home.
I'm a self-confessed geek with a penchant for board games, podcasts, and movies. You’re just as likely to find me off out cycling the Preseli hills or struggling to stand on my paddle board down at Newgale - that's when i’m not indulging my inner nerd.
I’ve always been fascinated by photography, drawn to the wizardry of a little box being able to capture something special from a fleeting moment in time. I first caught the photography bug when I borrowed my Dad's compact camera for a yearlong adventure to Australia, I was ready to make memories. That magic box went with me everywhere, allowing me to capture moments I’d likely never see again. In the following years photography turned into a fully-fledged hobby. Armed with a newly acquired cropped sensor Nikon DSLR, I developed a fussiness over my composition, abhorring skewed horizons and doing my utmost to snap the moment with a bit of style. I’ve always enjoyed being creative and photography is my outlet to satisfy this.
Having started out as a landscape photographer in Pembrokeshire, such a heavily photographed part of the world, I would strive to find an alternate viewpoint of these famous locations to give the viewer a different insight into a familiar place. Wedding photography crossed my radar when the lovely Bethany and Mike, put their faith in me and asked me to capture their big day way back in 2017. And that was it - game, set, and match!!
That is what I wanted to do.... well, let’s be honest – you wouldn’t be reading this if it hadn’t gone well!!
Those small glances, the big smiles, the nervous smiles, all of the happy tears, the dancing (even though everyone is watching), every side-glance during the speeches, every golden hour and fairy light, the boat loads of confetti! ALL of the love and light a wedding brings, capturing the magic in those unrepeatable moments - that is what I do.
There is no better feeling than delivering my captured images back to my couples. To have spent my day amongst a group of people who are all there to celebrate a couple’s happiest day and to get to bring that day back to life for them is a privilege and makes my job the best job in the world.
